Christopher Parshuram
Founder and Chief Executive Officer

Dr. Parshuram is the Chief Executive Officer and a founding member of BCS. He is a practicing paediatric physician at the Hospital for Sick Children (SickKids) and is the inventor and driving force behind the development of BCS's flagship product the Bedside Paediatric Early Warning System (BedsidePEWS).

Dr. Parshuram founded BCS with the sole purpose of equipping other paediatric physicians with the most innovative clinical diagnostic system available for child patients. As the Leader of the company, Dr. Parshuram is driven to help frontline health care professionals ensure that sick children receive the best treatment possible through innovations developed at BCS.

In addition to his roles at SickKids and BCS, Dr. Parshuram is a senior scientist in the SickKids Research Institute and an associate professor at the University of Toronto. Formally trained as a paediatrician, a critical care physician, clinical pharmacologist and a clinical epidemiologist, Dr. Parshuram graduated from Otago Medical School with prizes in medicine and pharmacology.

He received his PhD in Clinical Epidemiology from University of Toronto after completing his clinical training at SickKids. In addition to formal training in systems of healthcare delivery, Dr. Parshuram has expertise in cardiac arrest prevention, reducing medication errors, and preventing fatigue in healthcare workers.

Rajesh Sharma
President & Chief Marketing Officer

Rajesh Sharma is the Chief Marketing Officer of BCS. He is responsible for marketing the full commercial potential of paediatric healthcare innovations discovered at the Hospital for Sick Kids. Under his sales leadership, BCS has become a provider of innovative market ready paediatric software solutions for an ever growing global healthcare market.

Rajesh Sharma is a seasoned executive with more than 20 years experience in the healthcare industry. He started his career in front-line bedside clinical practice as a respiratory therapist before developing his business leadership skills. Prior to joining BCS, Rajesh led the healthcare practice at NCR Canada. He has also held sales and business development roles at Cerner Corporation, xwave Healthcare, and GE Healthcare. During his time at GE Healthcare, Raj's skills were recognised on the company's "top talent list," he was also awarded the Lean Six Sigma Greenbelt designation. Over the years, Mr. Sharma has developed a solid reputation as a talented leader and a savvy sales professional with a solid grasp of business.

A graduate of The Michener Institute Respiratory Therapy program and the BSc Human Biology program of the University of Toronto, Rajesh is active in the healthcare community as a director on The Michener Institute's Board of Governors and co-vice chair of the Michener Alumni Board.

As the president and CEO of MaRS innovation and a BCS board member, Raphael (Rafi) Hofstein works diligently with the BCS management team to provide the benefit of his many years of experience and unique business insight.

Rafi received his Ph.D. and M.Sc. in Life Sciences and Chemistry from the Weizmann Institute of Science in Rehovot, Israel; and his B.Sc. in Chemistry and Physics from the Hebrew University in Jerusalem. While completing postdoctoral training and research at the Harvard Medical School in Boston, in the Departments of Biological Chemistry and Neurobiology, Rafi received the Hereditary Disease Foundation Fellowship in 1982-83 and the Chaim Weizmann Postdoctoral Fellowship in 1980-82.

From 1999 to June 2009, Rafi held the position of President and CEO of Hadasit Ltd., the technology transfer company of the Hadassah Medical Organization in Jerusalem. Rafi serves as Chair of Hadasit BioHolding Ltd., a publicly traded company on the Tel Aviv Stock Exchange (TASE) since 2005.

Director of Corporate Ventures at The Hospital for Sick Children (SickKids)
Stuart's role at SickKids and his extensive experience make him a crucial asset to the BCS board. Stuart brings a mixed bag of legal skills to the table, including expertise in intellectual property management and the commercialization of intellectual property.

In his present role at SickKids, Stuart heads the group responsible for providing business and legal support to all portfolios in the hospital, including all aspects of technology and knowledge transfer.

Prior to joining SickKids, Stuart trained as a patent agent at one of Canada's pre-eminent law firms and he is registered to practice in both the U.S. and Canada. Over the past five years he has sat on the advisory boards of the MaRS Biotechnology Commercialization Centre, BioDiscovery Toronto, the government relations committee of the Ontario Society for Excellence in Technology Transfer, and the commercialization sub-committee of the Toronto Region Research Alliance.

He was co-founder of the Alliance for the Commercialization of Canadian Technologies, and from 2004-2006 was the Association of University Technology Manager's Vice President for Canada. Stuart currently sits on the board of Sprinkles Global Health Initiative, Aggregate Therapeutics, Inc., and the Electronic Child Health Network.

He has a B.Sc.(Hons) in Biological Chemistry, a Ph.D. in Chemistry from the University of Essex and he previously held a Postdoctoral Fellowship at the University of Toronto.
